US, UK, and Canada Receive Double the Number of Applications from Indian Students

According to a survey conducted by leading foreign education platforms, the applications from Indian students for higher education enrollment have doubled this year. Two key reasons identified are attractive pay packages and diverse roles offered by universities in the US, UK, and Canada. An average annual payout provided by US universities is $220000. For comparison, it was $90000 in 2019. Similarly, financial and economics students receive packages as high as $160000 per annum. The reports released by education platforms like Collegify and ForeignAdmits show that 8 out of 10 students choose STEM courses, which include all those subjects that fall in the category of science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines. It further revealed that in October 2021, applications from Indian students had surpassed those of the pre-pandemic levels.

Three Tips To Improve Your International Scholastic Experience

Have you received an acceptance letter from your chosen foreign campus? Congratulations! But before you step into an unfamiliar setting, follow these three tips to help you easily adjust to it:

Learn the Language: Things may get rough if you do not communicate in the native language. A simple and effective way to counter this problem is listening to audio podcasts and watching TV shows in that language.

Use existing resources: It may become challenging to find a job abroad. Take help from your subject coordinators or reach out to your school advisors. They are the best go-to resource for learning how to get a job.

Cultural tolerance and inclusion: This is where you need to step out of your comfort zone to observe and acknowledge how students from diverse backgrounds interact with each other. It will help you become familiar with the cultural framework.

The UK Receives A Strong Percentage Of International Students' Applications. Surpasses Pre-Covid Levels

By December 2021, more than 428,428 sponsored visas will have been granted to students aspiring to pursue higher education from the UK. Compared to the pre-pandemic levels, this is a 143% increase and 55% up from the previous year. The top five nationalities who received the UK visas were; China with 135,457, India with 90,669, Nigeria with 36,783, the US with 15,330 and Pakistan with 14,845. The top five countries with a three-digit percentage increase compared to the 2019 figures were; India by 197%, Nigeria by 368%, and Pakistan by 225%. There are several reasons behind the UK receiving a substantial percentage of international student applicants worldwide. One of the reasons is that during the lockdown, the UK had delivered a high-quality education experience to students who took online courses.

Australian Border Temporarily Closed For Two Weeks

Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has abruptly halted the reopening of the international borders due to the concerning COVID-19 Omicron variant. This may be a quick decision but a critical one. An emergency security meeting was held with the board of directors, and it was then decided to delay the border reopening by at least two weeks. So far, five cases of the new variant have been identified in Australia. Morrison further added that the temporary closure of the borders would allow them to gather information about Omicron and understand it better. The recently-approved international visitor plan for Japan and South Korea is also delayed by 15 days.

2022 Will Be An Extremely Busy Year For All Australian universities: Officials

The pandemic had an uneven impact on universities in Australia. Some faced a steep decline in their revenue; some could sustain themselves, while a few increased their income during the unforeseen period. While the decrease in revenue was clearly because of the loss of international students, officials believe that the reasons are much more complex than this. On the other hand, students were left confused because their campus life remained mostly remote even after the lockdowns were lifted. The list of happy universities that recorded an increased revenue includes Australian Catholic University, the University of Southern Queensland, Sunshine Coast University, Charles Darwin University, three South Australian universities, and the University of New England. Sydney University, Monash University, Macquarie University, The University of Queensland, and RMIT are amongst those who lost less than 5.1% on average.

Countries Use Selective Yet Effective Approach To Keep Away From The Omicron Variant

Omicron, the new variant of COVID-19 has already started its journey and countries now fear its impact on international and domestic travel. Governments worldwide are forcing decisions to restrict airlines coming from South Africa. From the reports published by numerous authorities worldwide, it is indicated that the full extent of the virus's severity can only be revealed over the next few weeks and months. But looking at the current situation, it is clear that the new strain's effect is below mild, and also, the number of people requiring critical care is lower as compared to the previous variants - Delta and Sars. The countries have already started boosting their vaccine strategies and are keeping surplus medical stock such as masks and PPE kits.
